Yasutaka Nakano, MD, Ph.D.
Pesident of the Joint Meeting of JSPFI and IWPFI 2024

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to the joint meeting of 15th Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pulmonary Functional Imaging and the 11th International Workshop on Pulmonary Functional Imaging in Otsu City, Japan from August 23 to 25, 2024. The main theme of this meeting is "Respiratory functional Imaging: present and future”. We hope this meeting will summarize the past in this field and show the future direction of this field.

The Japanese Society of Pulmonary Functional Imaging was founded in 2009 with the aim of promoting and developing the knowledge in this field, as well as contributing to the patients with respiratory diseases. Starting with the first meeting in Kyoto in 2009, the annual meeting has been held every year except for 2021, when it was postponed due to COVID-19, and this year marks the 15th anniversary meeting. The International Workshop on Respiratory Function Imaging was first held in Philadelphia, USA, in 2002, and has been held in cities in North America, Europe, and Asia. This meeting in Otsu will be the 11th time and it has been 13 years since the 5th workshop was held in Japan in 2011.

A key feature of the Japanese Society of Pulmonary Functional Imaging and the International Workshop on Pulmonary Functional Imaging is that clinicians and radiologists, as well as engineering researchers, will meet and exchange ideas with each other. Many of the world's leading clinicians and researchers in this field from the United States, Europe, Oceania and Asia will attend this joint meeting. We look forward to seeing you all in Otsu in August 2024.
